Setting up OpenVPN on an ASUS router consists of two stages: getting and editing a configuration file; uploading the file to the router settings.

Setting up a configuration file

  1. Download the .ovpn configuration file for the location you need from the BlancVPN Telegram bot or your BlancVPN personal account:

    • Telegram bot. Enter /start and then tap on «Install VPN» → choose the location required → «OpenVPN». When the bot sends you the file, download it.

    • Personal account. Choose the location, then «Other protocols» → «OpenVPN». Download the file.

  2. Open the file in any text editor app. You may use such apps as TextEdit, Windows Notepad or Notepad++. To do this, right-click on the file and choose «Open with» → your text editor.

  3. In the text, find the line tun-mtu 1400 and change it to tun-mtu 1500.

  4. Add the lines above the previously edited one, just like it is shown in the screenshot

    pull-filter ignore "ifconfig-ipv6"

    pull-filter ignore "route-ipv6".

  5. Save the file.

The setup is done in the router’s web interface. To open it, open 192.168.1.1 or router.asus.com in the browser. You will also need to type your router’s login and password.

If you don’t know your login and password, or you have changed the web interface address and have forgotten the new one, reset your router settings to the initial ones, following the manufacturer’s manual.

Connecting to VPN

To set up a VPN:

  1. Open the «VPN» page in the router menu on the left. If there is no such page, this means that your router does not support VPN.

  2. Go to the «VPN Client» page and click on «Add Profile».

  3. Choose the «OpenVPN» page.

  4. Write in the missing information. For «Description» you may write a note for yourself or simply type «BlancVPN». For «Username», write your login, for «Password», write your password. You have already got them from the BlancVPN telegram bot or your personal account.

  5. Now click on «Choose file». A file dialog will appear. Choose the .ovpn. file you have got from the Telegram bot and click on «ОК».

  6. Click on «Upload» and wait, while the «Complete» sign appears. Click on «ОК».

  7. Click on «Аctivate».A blue tick will appear by the profile name after the connection is established.

  8. To disconnect, click on «Deactivate».
