Additional settings

Setting up KillSwitch for OpenVPN or persistent connection

Android might disconnect from the VPN automatically, or the connection may break when resetting or reconnecting. To avoid this:

  1. Open the OpenVPN app and go to «Settings».

  2. In the «Default VPN» section choose the VPN connection you will use as default.

  3. Tick «Connect on Boot».

  4. Tick «Reconnect on network change».

Saving battery life

If you don’t want your VPN to drain battery power when you are not using it, go to «Settings» and tick «Pause VPN connection after screen…» (or «Battery Saver» in the last versions of the app).

Removing the notification

If the notification about the connection hangs and you don’t like it, please:

  1. Press on the notification for several seconds in a row.

  2. When the notification settings menu opens, find OpenVPN and turn off the disturbing options.

On certain devices – Samsung smartphones, for example – a system notification of connecting to the VPN may appear. It is impossible to remove it permanently, but it is possible to hide it. For that, please:

  1. Press on the notification for several seconds in a row.

  2. Tap on «VPN status» at the bottom of the system notifications menu.

  3. Go to «Importance».

  4. Choose «low».

All that’s left is to check that everything works:
